Greetings from Linda Hannawalt, the Quilt Lady. This is my birthday week. Wed., Nov. 21 st is my 74 th birthday. YEA!!!!! What do you give the gal who has everything? How about a helping hand! A few hours of your time to help others.

Here at the SF Quilt Shop in Mazatlan we are busy creating community quilts for four worthy groups. Heading into the holiday season we think a lot of people need a fabric hug and we would like to provide them some quilts for Christmas. We have set up a little “Santa’s Workshop” and we are looking for elves.

Our goal is make and provide 150 quilts to four groups by Dec. 21 st . We started this summer and have completed many quilts already and more are in progress, but we have a long way to go!!! It takes a village is more than a book and a saying.

Who are the groups we have chosen?
1. The school for the Blind Children here in Mazatlan. We will provide 30 quilts, one for each student.

2. The Zaragoza Seniors home. We will provide each client with a new quilt, new pillow, new pillowcase to match their new quilt and a Christmas stocking filled with toiletries and treats. We are collecting items to stuff the stockings at the shop. Approx. 20 clients

3. We will be sending 50 comfort quilts to Chico, CA for victims of the Paradise fires.

4. We will also be sending 50 quilts to our neighbors south of Mazatlan who were left homeless from the recent hurricane. We hope to work with a church group that is providing new mattresses as some of the homeless move back into their homes. We would like to match the new mattressess with a new quilt, pillow and pillowcase.

Of course, we need volunteers that can sew. Anything from a straight line to an entire quilt. But we also need helpers that can cut and iron and count and other fun things. There are many projects that do not require sewing to make this miracle happen and a few hours volunteering helps. So please join us!

Community Sewing in our classroom will have free lessons and we have all the machines and supplies available. We just need some extra hands.

Times for community sewing:

Mondays 12:30 – 6:00 lessons and sewing
Tuesday 10:00 – 12:00 free lesson
